NHL Teams’ overtime strategies…debunked

February 21st, 2007 · No Comments

NHL Coaches, I have your post-regulation overtime game strategies right here. This is based off reviewing your 2006-2007 Overtime (OT) and Shootout (SO) records through yesterday, 2/20/07. But since it’s based off of your team’s history, you might have already been employing this strategy, or just failing in whatever you try.
Luckily the playoffs […]

Thrashers marketing team…stop jinxing the Thrashers!

February 16th, 2007 · No Comments

I’ll take responsibility for my part, now you do your part.
During the last week of January the Thrashers mailed their season ticket holders the opportunity to buy playoff tickets. Since then they have lost 8 of 10, and look lost.
I am notoriously superstitious about the post-boast curse I put on teams after I praise […]

NHL Attendance Shell Game

February 15th, 2007 · No Comments

My earlier post about the state of the NHL may have been rosy, especially after reading this story. At the last game I attended there were at least 25% of the seats empty, yet the attendance was reported as 17,881 (18,545 is listed as capacity for hockey). That’s 96%.
Like the aforementioned story says, the […]

SabreSlugs outslime Thrashers in Shootout

February 7th, 2007 · No Comments

I just can’t take my wife! (to the game)
The Thrashers continue to play with my heart and voice, having taken all four games I’ve been to this year to overtime.
Both times Laura attended they lost, and both times she did not attend they won.
You know how superstitious I am, but this is a bad sign. […]

NHL Attendance Record…who’da thunk it?

February 2nd, 2007 · 1 Comment

The NHL set an all-time average attendance record for the month of January. While there are probably a couple of factors playing into this, including fewer televised games (you have to go if you want to see the game) and larger arenas, I am also impressed in this statistic because it includes all of […]

The NHL future is bright…

January 31st, 2007 · No Comments

A small collection of impressive hockey goal video links…one of the many moves by the 13-year old Canadian kid, Kevin Roy, is the same as Rob Hisey’s through the legs’ spin/lacrosse goal, and Rob Hisey also had one like Mike Legg’s from the U of Michigan (vs. Minnesota in Frozen Four).
Yet somehow I’m still the […]

Let’s win in regulation!

January 31st, 2007 · No Comments

The excitement is palpable. Next Tuesday night I’ll be at my fourth Thrashers game of the year, this time the whole fam-damily will be going. Section 306 is where we’ll be, and while they aren’t the best seats, they’re the best when they’re yours and you are seeing the top two teams in […]

My night as a "Guest Writer" for the NHL’s Atlanta Thrashers

January 27th, 2007 · 1 Comment

I’ve been to many Thrashers games, so I’ve chosen to write about some of the things I saw and thoughts I had related to tonight’s “Thrashers Bloggers Night,” most of which have little to do with the game itself, which for some reason seems boring to blog about at this point.
I think there were about […]

NHL to release new "fan-friendly" versions of new Reebok team jerseys

January 26th, 2007 · No Comments

With a lack of many big names in this year’s NHL All Star game (20 players made their first appearance), much of the hype was surrounding the new Rbk EDGE uniforms, debuted during the game, and to be worn next season by all players.
The jerseys are more form-fitting, featuring a new synthetic fabric with […]

Hockey for all!

January 17th, 2007 · No Comments

Today’s good news is that 30 of the last 35 Atlanta Thrashers games are televised, and I’ll be going to one of the non-televised ones.
So it’s quite likely that I’ll approach the 88.5% viewership that SportSouth, Versus, NBC, and Comcast Hockey Live are allowing me…if I am both determined and lucky.
Go Thrash!
