Who knew this about John Cusack?

June 22nd, 2007 · 3 Comments

It may be the first time I’ve ever linked to a USA Today article.  I’ve always liked a select group of actors, namely because I typically like the movies they’re in, and said movies are often #4 or 5 at the box office when they debut…at their peak.  John Cusack, Ed Norton, Ed Harris, Tim […]

Recent movie reviews

June 18th, 2007 · No Comments

Movies I’ve recently seen (as opposed to recent movies) that I’ll quickly review:
Blood Diamond
3.5 out of 5 stars - Love story was just too convenient and the coincidences far too numerous to be believable. Djimon Hounsou was quite good though, worthy of his Oscar nomination.
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
4 out of 5 stars […]

Movie Clichés

May 2nd, 2007 · No Comments

Many reappearing movie clichés annoy me, and I would not mind if they never showed up again. Today’s four:

Gunshot wounds that physically drive people backward as if they’d just been tackled by a linebacker
Urban homes/apartments that can easily be broken in to, and never have alarms
Answering machines
Lazy security camera watchmen

Movie Review: Babel

March 23rd, 2007 · No Comments

Last night after the family was off to bed I caught the end of Babel. It was a great movie, though hard to watch. It was like watching the storyline of The Red Violin with the audience frustration of Crash put to the music of The Constant Gardener and the videography of Traffic.
Of […]

Netflix thinks they can tell me what to watch, but I’d have to go through an arduous process to rate all of the movies I’ve seen. Maybe you can help suggest a movie I’d like based on the below alphabetical list of 101 movies I know I liked.
Hopefully this also helps you to know […]

Happy Feet Adventure

December 11th, 2006 · No Comments

Saturday we took Miles to see his first feature length film; it may be a while before he goes to another. While we knew Happy Feet may have some content not suitable for him, we did not have to worry about that, because he averted his eyes most of the time anyway, particularly when the […]

Shut Up and Travel, then Sing

November 27th, 2006 · No Comments

Our November travel has ended. We are without Miles this week. And we just got back from “Shut Up & Sing,” the documentary movie about the Dixie Chicks.
Thanksgiving week in Northern Virginia was nice this week, particularly after the cold rain left. We enjoyed far too much delicious home cooking, especially the desserts. Dinner at […]

Q: Is Dan Aykroyd guilty of being in the most worst sequels ever?

November 13th, 2006 · No Comments

A: Perhaps…with Caddyshack II, Blues Brothers 2000, and Ghostbusters II on his resume (assuming you can have a “most worst” list). The last movie you’ve heard of that he was in was Pearl Harbor (2001), although his filmography lists nine movies since. And he’s going on 20 years since he last made me laugh. Kind […]

An Inconvenient Goof

June 19th, 2006 · No Comments

It’s taken me a couple weeks to digest the Al Gore movie, ‘An Inconvenient Truth’, that I saw during its opening showing, the 1 pm matinee on opening day, 6/13/06 here in Atlanta. Either that, or I’m just lazy.
The theatre was only about 1/4 full, and aside from some periodic applause for slams on Bush, […]
